Miss Emily와 Emily
이 소설에서는 Emily에 대하여 서술할 때에는 항상 Miss라는 칭호를 붙여 Miss Emily로 서술하였다. 그러나 소설의 제목은 ‘ARoseFor Emily'이다. 이것은 무엇을 의미하는 것일까? 작가는 Miss Emily와 Emily의 대조를 통해 재창조되지 못한 과거 속에서 헤어나지 못하는

→Emily의 집에서 났던 악취가 그녀의 집에서 부패되고 있는 Homer의 시체 냄새였으며, Emily가 죽기 전까지도(철 회색 머리카락) 그 시체와 한 베개를 썼다는 것을 의미한다.
